Omar Sowunmi is a professional footballer who plays as a defender at Yeovil Town.
At just 22 years of age, Sowunmi is now captain of the league 2 side having demonstrated remarkable leadership qualities and delivering outstanding performances, that also had him named Yeovil’s player of the season last year.
The 6’6 defender, Born and raised in Colchester, Essex began his professional football career in Ipswich, Suffolk graduating from the Ipswich Town Academy.
Sowunmi’s dedication to the game landed him with a one year professional contract for Ipswich Town. With appearances on loan to Braintree Town and Lowestoft Town during his time at Ipswich, it's no surprise there was interest surrounding the signing of this young defender. Yet, it was Yeovil Town that managed to land Sowunmi due to an impressive performance during trials.
After an impressive season at the heart of Yeovil’s defence, fan favourite Sowunmi picked up a couple of player of the season awards. Sowunmi has now signed another two year contract with “The Glovers” which has delighted fans.
